Collies

Collies don’t like the Postie,
Collies are black and white;
Collies like morning toasties
And scratching their fleas at night.

I’ll tell you a secret that cannot be said,
About what a Collie likes most in their day,
If they hear it they’ll bark so I’ll spell it instead;
It’s a W-A-L-K.

   The Scaredy Cat

(We have a ginger cat, impossible to catch, who rarely comes to call - even for dinner. She most likely suffers a neurological condition.)

'Scaredy cat,

Scaredy Cat',

Won't you come for tea?

'Sacredy cat,

Scaredy cat',

Can't you see I love thee?

Your food is out,

I'll rap the tin,

To let you know,

Your plate it's in.

'Scaredy cat,

Scaredy cat',

Why are you scared of me?

       Bush Turkey

Turkey lurkey, in the garden,                                     Raking of a morning,
Stealing mulch at Christmas time,
You’d better heed my warning:

Grand-dad saves water
And gardens with mulch,
But mulching takes lots of worky;
He fancies a bird too for his Christmas lunch,
Please make sure it’s not Turkey!

      Fox at midnight

Tricky foxey
Prowling around,
Searching for food in the night;
Tricky fox,
So few eyes see -                                                                                                  Mostly you stay out of sight.

Maybe old moon out casting his light
In silvery trails has see this sight;
The only eye this very night,
To catch you out before sunlight?

   Fox in the morning

Tricky foxey prowling at morning,
The butcher bird bombs you
To give us a warning;
Sniffing the air
With that nonchalant look,
There’s something he’s after:
Oh no not our chooks!'

    The Handbag Dog

                                                                                                  ‘I don’t walk’
Said the hand-bag dog,
‘My owner walks for me!
Unless of course I deign to meet                                 With canine company.

                                                                                           When at the vets, - my Doctor!
Or down the doggie park,
I might ask her to lift me down,
To where the others bark.

                                                                                                                                                                       A mobile phone's her tool of choice,
I like to scratch and sniff;                                               Catching all the gossip,                                                        In a single whiff '.

Collies' Walking Song

Walking's such a boring word,
Sniff and pee, sniff and pee;
    There's much more too it, or haven't you heard?
Sniff and pee, sniff and pee;

    To tell the boys I've been around,
Leg on tree, Leg on tree;
    Or girls, I'm such a handsome hound,
Leg on tree, Leg on tree;

    And when I finally hit the park,
Running free, running free;
    I yap and yelp and loudly bark,                             Running free, running free.

    With final ray of falling sun,
Home for tea, home for tea,
    I pant and puff, to say 'I'm done',
and home for tea, home for tea!

    Walking such a wondrous word,
Sniff and pee, sniff and pee

 There's so much to it, or haven't you heard!

    Dinosaurs?

(For Bronte, Harrison, and Koolah)

                                                                                                 I don’t believe,
I think                                                                                        I
saw...

                                                                                                Oh no, it can’t be true;

                                                                                                 A Bronte and a Harri-saur,                                                 A Koolah-saurus too!

I thought the dangerous dinosaur
Was only found in books,
But here I find within our house -

Three!

With all the looks:

They’re green, they’re long, they’re scaly,                 They crawl upon the floor,
And when they start to howl and growl,
I’m running to the door!

But really they’re not scary,
When all is  said and done,
Sometimes they like a cuddle,                                      And mostly they like fun!
